In the 1980s there was a growing skateboarding-scene in France, which grew frustrated with the small number of skateboarding shoes avalaible. Therefore Pierre André Sénizergues and his friends asked a local shoefactory, if they could manufacture skate-shoes as well. That was in 1986 and the birth of Etnies. The first shoes didn''t sell that well, but the brand survived and came to the USA a few years later. There the French imports got popular within a short time. Today because of their special know-how with performance shoes Etnies also manufactures sneakers for other action sports like BMX or snowboarding. Functionality, stability and an extraordinary design are their characteristics.
