New York is often referred to as the Mecca.
The Mecca of Basketball.
The Mecca of Streetstyle.
And most of all, the Mecca of Hip Hop.
NYC is the city of big dreams and the home of Hip Hop since the early beginnings of the genre, its legacy unchallenged ever since. The five boroughs have brought out more iconic rappers than every other Hip Hop capital. Namely? We have the Wu Tang Clan and Method Man from Staten Island, KRS-One, Grandmaster Flash and Slick Rick from the Bronx, LL Cool J, Run-D.M.C., A Tribe Called Quest, Mobb Deep and Nas from Queens, Doug E. Fresh, Cam’ron and Mase from Harlem and last but not least the Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Jay Z, Fabolous and Foxy Brown from Brooklyn. Should I go on?
A lot of tracks from the New York’s Finest have become de facto anthems for their city. The songs are packed with references to their beloved hometown and local pride for Hip Hop’s birthplace. Welcome to New York City:
