The Columbia Sportswear Company, as the company is called by its full name (named after the Columbia River), has conquered the world market with regards to high-quality outdoor clothing and sportswear. As a family business, the Columbia Sportswear Company can look back on an eventful company history. In 1938, Paul and Marie Lamfrom, who had fled Germany the year before, found the Columbia Hat Company. At first only hats were produced, but because of difficulties with the suppliers, the Lamfroms soon switched to fashion. This was a welcome change for the Lamfroms as, in Germany, they owned the largest shirt factory in the country at the time, based in Augsburg.Columbia stands for first-class outdoor clothingShirts were offered by Columbia once again, but the main focus was on sportswear and outdoor goods, which over the decades grew to include activities such as hiking, skiing, fishing, climbing, jogging, paddling and the like. Previously, his parents Neal and Gert Boyle were in charge, and his mother, Gert, probably strongly influenced the company. It is only through them that Columbia has become what it is today - a globally successful sportswear manufacturer that stands for first-class quality. This can be recognised by the "Tested tough" seal, which is awarded to shoes, jackets and other equipment that have successfully passed various tests under Northwest Pacific weather conditions. It's also due to Gert Boyle's motto: Make it a little better, even if it's already perfect.
