Lakers Shop @ KICKZ

While the legendary Lakers jersey remained largely unchanged in the past season, shortly after the commitment of superstar LeBron James, the new jerseys for the 2018/19 season were presented, each with small detail changes. KICKZ explains the small but subtle differences.

Back to Showtime!

Such as last year, all NBA jerseys will come in three different editions. For the Lakers, this means: Association (white), Statement (purple) & Icon (gold). All three versions now have a round collar and multi-color piping, reminiscent of the Lakers jerseys of the 80s which is a clear tribute to the golden showtime era of Magic, Worthy & Kareem.

Another difference is the coloring of the numbers on the new statement and icon jerseys. These are now purple and no longer white, as in the previous year. All digits now also have a typical 80s drop shadow look.

The golden or purple outline that has been around all digits for the last few years is gone. The purple or gold stripes on the flanks have also disappeared in the Icon and Association editions. But the sides of the purple-colored statement jerseys now adorn black stripes for the first time.

A New Hope

Throughout the entire past season it was speculated, what the Free Agent summer 2018 would bring for the L.A. Lakers. After being spurned by superstars over the last 5 years, the Purple & Gold franchise has now brought the best player of the NBA to LA.

LeBron James is saying goodbye to Cleveland, switching to the wildly contested Western Conference for the first time in his career. The young, talented troupe led by head coach Luke Walton rose at least temporarily to second place in the bookmakers’ list of title favorites behind the Warriors.

But the game is played on the court, not on paper. How good are the Young Guns & the King really? Only time will tell. But it is already clear that the Lakers LeBron jersey will break all sales records.

Young Guns & Vets

Anyone who thought that the Lakers were done after the signing of LeBron was wrong. With Rajon Rondo, Michael Beasley, JaVale McGee & Lance Stephenson, the Lakers brought numerous experienced veterans into the fold, which in turn should compensate for the inexperience of the young squad.

In fact, last year the youngsters around Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart lost a lot of games in the crunch time. This should now be a thing of the past thanks to LeBron James and the other vets. Will the Lakers make it into the playoffs? Fans around the world are counting on it. Are they good enough to play for the title?

Probably not yet. But after the failures of recent years, the future looks bright in La-La Land at last.
