In 1966, Doug Tompkins declared war on coldness. He laid the foundation for THE NORTH FACE by opening a small store in the North Beach quarter of San Francisco, selling equipment for ski tours and backpacking. In 2006 two athletes - sponsored by The North Face - ran 50 marathons in 50 U.S. states in 50 days. And even antarctic expeditions are part of the The North Face's activities.
