The Boston Celtics are among the NBA's veteran teams and of the five big-name traditional clubs (Knicks, Pistons, Sixers, Lakers and Celtics), they are the closest to win a championship.
Thanks to a series of outstanding front office moves, Boston now has the best starting five in the East and, together with Toronto, is the big favorite to win the Eastern Conference. But what about the Celtics' title chances? Can they keep up with the top teams in the west?
In terms of talent, the Celtics are well able to beat the Warriors and Rockets. When it comes to experience Tatum and Brown (understandably) still have shortcomings. You also have to see if Tatum can go improve on his stellar rookie season, or how Gordon Hayward's return impacts the development of the Celtics' young players.
Anyone who has saw Gordon Hayward's gruesome injury last year will not forget it soon. And although the 28-year-old is still in his best basketball age, doubts arose as to whether Hayward will regain his full strength. Now he is back for his first full season with the Celtics and nobody seems to take notice.
Boston has a superstar with Kyrie Irving, an experienced veteran in Al Horford, and two talented youngsters in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who could one day lead the team. Gordon Hayward is somewhere in between.
The hype surrounding Kyrie and Tatum has led to Hayward's comeback being somewhat overlooked. Undeservedly so. In good health, he is one of the best players at the shooting guard positon. And even if he does not have the spectacular game of a James Harden or Russell Westbrook, you always need a rock solid player like Hayward, if you want to win a championship.
The Celtics reached last year's Conference Finals without their backcourt starters Irving and Hayward and were only defeated by the Cavaliers after seven games. Youngsters Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown each scored close to 18 points per game in 19 postseason games playing key roles in the team's success.
For young players, such playoff experiences are worth a ton and it will be interesting to see if they continue their great performance now that Kyrie and Hayward are back on board.
PG Backup and surprise player last season Terry Rozier has to prove that he was not a fluke and can still produce results with less playing time behind Kyrie.
Here we put everything together a real Celtics fan needs. From official jersey and shorts, to fan t-shirts and socks and of course Kyrie's signature shoes. Get yours!
