Urban Lifestyle with the Adidas NMD

The Adidas NMD is the type of trainer that was not designed as a sports shoe, but rather something for everyday wear. For streetwear fans, it is the ideal gear for prolonged forays through the city. After all, that is also where the name comes from – the three letters represent the word nomad. Furthermore, with its lifestyle orientation and roots in the 80s classics, the Adidas NMD falls in the Adidas Originals range. Adorned with the trefoil (three-leaf) logo, the sporting goods manufacturer is successfully recreating retro classics under this line.

Popular from the word go

Adidas launched Adidas NMD in 2016 with the NMD Runner aka R1. This has now been followed by several models in numerous colourways, and there have already been several collaborations (including with Pharrell Williams). The trainer’s popularity has not wavered since its release – which is, of course, not only due to its cool look but also the comfort it provides. Apart from the “walking-on-clouds” boost sole, trainer aficionados like the shoe because of the Primeknit upper. This breathable material is super light but still offers solid support.

Adidas NMD

To develop the Adidas NMD, the makers of the shoe went rummaging deep in the Adidas archive in Herzogenaurach. And they emerged successful, having found inspiration in three running classics of the 80s – the Micropacer, the Rising Star and the Boston Super. Of course, the Adidas NMD does not forego today’s innovative technical standards. This makes the shoe’s slogan, ‘the best of the past and the future’, a fitting description.

The innovative technologies that the NMD boasts include, for example, the iconic Adidas boost sole. What is so special about this sole? It gives you a wonderfully light and supple feel. The sole is made of thermoplastic polyurethanes that are moulded together into many small capsules. These compress under pressure to absorb shock, relay it into the ground and ping back to their original shape.
