Originally called Blue Ribbon Sports, Nike was founded the team of athlete Phil Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman in 1964. The pair met at the University of Oregon and initially set up the company to distribute shoes from Onitsuka Tiger, which is now called ASICS. It was not until 7 years later that the brand changed its name to Nike. But Nike shoes have a history that goes back to the beginning. Even as a distributor, shoes were the main business of Nike. Following its success as a distributor, the decision to try making its own shoes seemed bold but logical.
