It is hard to imagine basketball without the famous orange ball made by Spalding, don’t you agree? The Spalding company was founded in 1876 by Albert Spalding. He was a pitcher and the manager of the baseball team The Chicago White Stockings, which is how he knew what the perfect sports equipment should look like. Spalding started his business by producing equipment for baseball. In 1894 the company introduced its first ball for basketball (at that time the sport was just three years old), and soon Spalding became a leading producer in the industry.
Spalding and basketball – love at first sight
With numerous technological innovations, like the Infusion or NEVERFLAT ball, Spalding established itself as the world’s leading ball producer. In 1983 Spalding became the official supplier of the world’s premier basketball league, the NBA, manufacturing not only basketballs, but also bags and basketball hoops. But why are the balls made by Spalding so famous? The answer is simple; Spalding only uses the finest full grain leather and latest innovations to guarantee that all of their products are of the highest quality and performance.
