At KICKZ you'll find Basketball Shoes from Nike, Jordan, adidas, PUMA, Anta, Li-Ning and Under Armour – from Premium Signature Lines to solid team models for beginners. Explosive guards need low-top shoes with court feel and quick response like Nike Ja, adidas Harden or Nike Kobe. Versatile wings & forwards benefit from mid-tops with a balance of speed and support like Jordan Luka, adidas Dame or Nike KD. Power players & bigs rely on maximum cushioning and stability like Nike LeBron and Nike Giannis. At KICKZ we have all brands, all technologies – for all playing styles, for every court, every level, every position.
Zoom Air: Responsive air unit in the forefoot or throughout the sole. Zoom Air consists of a thin, pressurised air chamber with tensioned fibres that compress under load and immediately spring back. The result: explosive take-off and direct court feel. Zoom Air is the standard technology in most Nike Signature Lines – in the Nike Ja, Nike KD, Jordan Tatum. Ideal for players who want responsive cushioning without much weight.
Zoom Turbo: Evolution of Zoom Air with a thicker air unit for more cushioning for power players. Zoom Turbo gives you the response of Zoom Air but with more cushioning on hard landings. Built into the Nike Giannis – ideal for athletic forwards who jump a lot but still want to stay explosive.
React Foam: Lightweight, cushioning midsole material made from EVA foam that returns energy and is durable. React is softer than Zoom Air but less direct in court feel. However, React is more comfortable for long training sessions and withstands more wear. Ideal for versatile players who want balanced cushioning without a premium price.
Cushlon: Simpler cushioning material in entry-level models. Cushlon is an EVA foam that offers solid cushioning but without the response of Zoom Air or the durability of React. Built into team models – ideal for beginners or as an affordable training shoe.
Boost: Energy-return technology made from thousands of TPU capsules that return energy with every step. Boost is extremely comfortable and durable – the cushioning is retained throughout the shoe's entire lifespan. Disadvantage: Boost is heavier than modern foams like Lightstrike. Built into the adidas Harden – ideal for players who prioritise comfort over response.
Lightstrike: Lightweight EVA cushioning for explosive guards, designed for quick response without much weight. Lightstrike is thinner and more responsive than Boost, giving you direct court feel and quick take-offs. Built into the adidas Dame, adidas Trae, adidas D.O.N. – ideal for explosive players who rely on speed and agility.
Bounce: Mid-range cushioning, balanced between cushioning and response. Bounce is softer than Lightstrike but more responsive than Boost. Built into mid-tier models – ideal for players looking for good value for money.
Continental Rubber: High-quality outsole made from rubber by Continental, the tyre manufacturer. Continental Rubber is extremely grippy on indoor courts and more durable than standard rubber. Many adidas Signature Lines use Continental Rubber for maximum traction – a detail that makes the difference when you hit the brakes on a cut.
Formula 23 Foam: Proprietary cushioning material from Jordan Brand, balanced between cushioning and court feel. Formula 23 is an EVA foam that's responsive but offers more cushioning than Zoom Air. Built into the Jordan Luka – ideal for versatile players who are both quick and powerful.
Flight Plate: Carbon or TPU plate in the midsole for more stability and explosive take-off. The Flight Plate stiffens the midsole and gives you more energy with every step – particularly noticeable on quick changes of direction. Built into many Air Jordan models – ideal for players who rely on explosiveness.
Flight Grip: Traction pattern on the outsole for multidirectional traction. Flight Grip is a pattern of differently arranged nubs and grooves that grips in all directions – not just forward but also laterally on cuts. Built into most Jordan Signature Lines.
Nitro Foam: Lightweight, nitrogen-injected cushioning that's responsive and energy-returning. Nitro Foam is PUMA's answer to Zoom Air and Lightstrike – light, reactive, comfortable. Built into the PUMA MB, PUMA Hali, PUMA Scoot. Ideal for players who want modern cushioning without Nike or adidas pricing.
ProFoam: Entry-level cushioning from PUMA in team models. ProFoam is an EVA foam with solid cushioning but without the response of Nitro Foam. Ideal for beginners or as an affordable training shoe.
A-Flashfoam: Proprietary cushioning material, particularly built into Kyrie Irving's Kai models. A-Flashfoam is responsive and gives direct court feel – ideal for guards with quick handles and precise footwork.
A-WEB: Traction system for grip on all surfaces. A-WEB is a pattern of star-shaped nubs that grips in all directions. Built into the Anta Kai and Anta KT models.
Herringbone Traction: Classic herringbone pattern on the outsole, considered the standard for optimal grip on indoor courts. Herringbone grips in all directions and collects less dust than other patterns. Built into Nike Kobe, adidas Trae Young, many Jordan models. If you're looking for a traction pattern that simply works, herringbone is the safest choice.
TPU Frame / Stabiliser: Reinforcements made from thermoplastic polyurethane for lateral stability on cuts. TPU frames are often built into the midfoot or heel and prevent your foot from rolling in the shoe. Important for power players and shoes with lots of cushioning.
Flywire / Lockdown Systems: Integrated lacing made from thin, high-strength fibres that secure the midfoot and prevent slipping in the shoe. Flywire is Nike's designation, but many brands use similar systems. If you feel your foot slipping in the shoe on hard cuts, you're missing a good lockdown system.
Explosive Guards: If you're an explosive guard who relies on quick changes of direction and court feel, you need a low-top shoe with responsive cushioning – Nike Ja, Nike Kobe, adidas Trae are your choices. These shoes give you maximum freedom of movement at the ankle, direct ground feel and traction that grips in all directions. You sacrifice some ankle support for speed and agility – ideal for players under 90 kg who rely on speed and technique.
Versatile Wings & Forwards: For versatile wings or forwards who need both speed and support, mid-tops like Jordan Luka, adidas Dame or Nike KD are ideal. These shoes reach up to the ankle and give you stability without restricting freedom of movement. The cushioning is balanced – responsive enough for quick moves, comfortable enough for long training sessions. Ideal for players between 80 and 100 kg who are dangerous both on the fast break and from the half-court.
Power Players & Bigs: As a powerful forward or centre who dominates on rebounds and in the paint, you rely on maximum cushioning and stability – Nike LeBron and Nike Giannis give you the necessary support for this. These shoes have wide bases, robust constructions and maximum cushioning to absorb hard landings and contact under the basket. Ideal for players over 90 kg who play physically and jump a lot.
Low-Top: Ends below the ankle, maximum freedom of movement, direct court feel. Low-tops don't give you structural support at the ankle – you rely on your own stability and mobility. Ideal for explosive guards like Ja Morant, Trae Young or players who share the Kobe philosophy. If you're under 85 kg, play fast and have no ankle problems, low-top is your choice.
Mid-Top: Reaches the ankle, balance of support and mobility, versatile use. Mid-tops give you comfort and light structural support without restricting freedom of movement. Most modern Basketball Shoes are mid-tops – Jordan Luka, adidas Dame, Nike KD. Ideal for guards, wings and forwards between 80 and 100 kg.
High-Top: Goes over the ankle, maximum stability, for power players and bigs. High-tops give you structural support at the ankle and psychological comfort on hard landings. Ideal for players over 90 kg who play physically, jump a lot or have ankle problems.
Men: Generally sizes from EU 39 to EU 48
Women: From EU 36 to EU 43
Kids: From EU 28 to EU 38.5
WNBA Signature Lines like Nike Sabrina and Nike A'Ja have a particularly comprehensive size range from EU 35.5 to EU 48, so that every player can find the right shoe. In addition to the standard colourways, we regularly have limited Player Editions and Special Releases in our range – exclusive designs that sell out quickly. If you like a limited colourway, it's worth buying quickly – many releases are sold out within days.
After Training:
Remove dust and dirt immediately after training with a soft brush or damp cloth – if dirt dries, it settles into the traction pattern and reduces grip
Especially on dusty courts, fine sand collects in the grooves of the outsole, reducing traction
Don't leave your shoes on the radiator or in direct sunlight to dry, as the heat makes the upper material brittle and can damage cushioning systems like Zoom Air or Boost
Instead, stuff newspaper into the shoes to absorb moisture – this maintains the shape and speeds up drying
The KICKZ Experts Recommend:
Check the outsole for wear after each use – if the traction pattern is worn down, you lose grip and risk injury from slipping
On Signature Lines with herringbone pattern, you can see the wear when the grooves become flatter
For heavy dirt, lukewarm water with a mild detergent is sufficient – no aggressive chemicals that attack the upper material
Never wash Basketball Shoes in the washing machine – the mechanical stress and heat during spinning can loosen adhesive bonds and damage cushioning systems

We're not just retailers, we're ballers. We know how a Nike Ja feels on a hard cut, how the Jordan Luka responds on quick first steps and why the traction on the adidas Trae Young still grips on dusty courts. We pass this experience on to you – in our product descriptions, in our advice, in our selection.
For Guards (Point Guard, Shooting Guard): We recommend low-top or mid-top shoes with responsive cushioning and direct court feel:
Nike Ja
Nike Kobe
Nike Book
adidas Trae Young
Jordan Luka
adidas Dame
These shoes give you maximum freedom of movement and quick response on cuts.
For Wings (Small Forward, Shooting Forward): Mid-tops with balanced cushioning are ideal:
Jordan Tatum
Nike KD
Nike A'Ja
Air Jordan
These shoes combine speed with support and are versatile for all wing positions.
For Bigs (Power Forward, Centre): We recommend mid-top or high-top shoes with maximum cushioning and stability:
Nike LeBron
Nike Giannis
These shoes absorb hard landings and give you support on rebounds and contact in the paint.
Zoom Air: Thin, responsive air unit developed by Nike that gives you explosive take-off and direct court feel – ideal for guards and explosive players. Zoom Air compresses immediately under load and springs back without much cushioning height. You feel the court under your feet but still get cushioning on landings.
Nike React: Thicker, softer foam material that offers more cushioning and returns energy – ideal for longer training sessions and versatile players. React is more comfortable than Zoom Air but less direct in court feel.
Conclusion: Zoom Air is snappier, React is more comfortable. If you rely on explosiveness, take Zoom Air. If you need comfort over multiple games, take React.
Boost: Consists of thousands of TPU capsules and returns energy with every step – very comfortable but also a bit heavier. Boost is extremely durable and stays soft throughout the shoe's entire lifespan. Ideal for players who prioritise comfort over weight – powerful guards and forwards like James Harden.
Lightstrike: Lightweight EVA cushioning designed for response and speed – less cushioning but more court feel. Lightstrike is thinner and more responsive than Boost, giving you quick take-offs and direct ground contact. Ideal for explosive guards like Damian Lillard, Trae Young or Donovan Mitchell.
Conclusion: Boost is for power players, Lightstrike for explosive guards.
That depends on your playing style, your weight and your personal preference:
Low-Tops: Maximum freedom of movement, ideal for explosive guards under 85 kg
Mid-Tops: Versatile standard for guards, wings and forwards between 80 and 100 kg – balance of support and mobility
High-Tops: Structural support and comfort on hard landings, ideal for power players over 90 kg or players with ankle problems
Important to Know: Studies show that cut height has no significant influence on ankle injuries. High-tops don't prevent injuries – it's about personal preference and comfort. If you feel secure in low-tops, you don't need a high-top. If you want comfort and support, take a mid-top or high-top.
No, performance Basketball Shoes are designed for indoor courts. The outsoles are usually made of soft rubber with herringbone pattern or other fine traction patterns that give optimal grip on smooth hall floors. On rough concrete, these soles wear down extremely quickly – after just a few outdoor sessions, the traction pattern is worn away and the grip is gone.
Our Recommendation for Outdoor Players:
Keep a separate pair of cheaper team models for outdoor use
Your expensive signature shoes with Zoom Air or Boost will last longer this way
If you exceptionally have to play outside, clean the sole thoroughly with a brush afterwards
Remove sand and small stones that damage the traction and reduce grip in the hall as well
As basketball experts, we advise against using the same shoes for indoor and outdoor – the wear on concrete is enormous and can ruin a €150 signature shoe within weeks.
Basketball Shoes should fit snugly on the foot without pinching. In the forefoot you need about a thumb's width of space (approx. 1 cm) so that your toes don't hit the front on hard stops. Your foot should sit firmly in the midfoot – if you feel your foot slipping in the shoe on a cut, the shoe is too big or the lockdown system isn't laced tight enough.
Tips for Choosing the Right Size:
Many players take their normal street shoe size
For particularly narrow-cut models (e.g. Nike Kobe, Nike Ja) go up half a size
At KICKZ you have a 30-day returns policy – order two sizes if in doubt and send back the one that doesn't fit
Try the shoe on with basketball socks, not with thin everyday socks – it makes a difference
Test the shoe standing and in movement – some shoes feel good when sitting but on the first cut you notice that the midfoot doesn't sit firmly enough
Signature Lines: Offer the latest technologies, premium materials and are tailored to the playing style of a specific NBA or WNBA star – ideal for ambitious players who want maximum performance.
What You Get:
Zoom Air instead of simple EVA cushioning
Engineered mesh instead of synthetic overlays
Continental Rubber instead of standard rubber
Price: between 120€ and 180€, depending on model and technology
Team Models: Solidly made, durable and significantly cheaper – perfect for beginners, recreational players or as a robust training shoe.
What You Get:
Proven technologies (React, Bounce, ProFoam)
Solid traction and sufficient cushioning
Without the premium features of Signature Lines
Price: between 60€ and 100€
Our Recommendation: If you play several times a week, in a league or train at a high level and value the latest cushioning and traction systems, the Signature Line is worth it. If you only play occasionally, are a beginner or are looking for a robust all-rounder for training and street ball, a team model is sufficient. Many players have both – a Signature Line for important games, a team model for training and outdoor.
Signature Shoes Invest In:
Premium materials (engineered mesh, synthetic leather, carbon plates)
Latest cushioning technologies (Zoom Air, Boost, Nitro Foam)
Extensive development processes with NBA and WNBA stars
Nike, adidas, Jordan and PUMA invest millions in research, testing and marketing
Team Models Focus On:
Simpler materials (standard mesh, simple synthetics)
Proven but older technologies (React, Bounce, EVA foam)
Larger production quantities
The price difference isn't just in marketing but in measurable differences in cushioning, traction, weight and durability.
